A BRIEF BACKGROUND

NALSAR University of Law is officially known as the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR). It was established by a Statute of the State of Andhra Pradesh in 1998. The university houses faculties and students from across the country. NALSAR offers five year integrated law for undergraduates.  It offers student and faculty exchange programs throughout the world with universities such as University of South Wales Australia, Kings College London etc. to name a few. The university has sufficient financial aid coming from Challa Kondaiah Trust and many prominent individuals. It has in house research centers working on a lot many cases.

LOCATION

The NALSAR University is situated in Justice City, Shamirpet, Hyderabad, Telangana. It is situated at a distance of 25 km from Jubilee Bus Station, 28 km from Begumpet Airport. It is 27 km from Secunderabad Railway Station and connected via City Bus No. 211. The bus charges a nominal fare of Rs. 10. An auto from Secunderabad costs Rs 160 and a taxi costs Rs 300. MODE OF ADDMISSION

The admission to the NALSAR University, Hyderabad happens through a Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). Each year, the CLAT is conducted in the month of May and consists of objective type questions of a standard expected of 10+2 students and will be of 2 hours’ duration.  The test is divided into five sections mainly- Verbal Ability, General Awareness, Quantitative Ability, Logical Reasoning and Legal Aptitude. The test will carry a maximum of 200 marks. NLSIU offers a five years integrated B.A.LLB.

The criteria for negative marking is based on the formula 0.25*4=1 that means per wrong answer 0.25 Marks will be deducted. Therefore, four wrong answers will lead to deduction of 1 Mark.

If more than one candidate gets the same rank in the merit list, the order of priority for the selection of the candidate against the available vacancies will be strictly based on the percentage of marks obtained in the qualifying examination.

 

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE ADDMSSION TO BA.LLB (Hons)

A candidate for admission to the B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Degree Course shall have:

  1. passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) system or an examination equivalent thereto securing in the first attempt, not less than 50% (45% in the case of SC / ST candidates and persons with disability) in the aggregate, and
  2. not completed 20 years of age as on 1st July of the year of admission. In the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST and persons with disability, the maximum age limit shall be 22 years.
  • Those who do not clear the qualifying examination with the requisite marks are not eligible for admission. Candidates whose Statement of marks of the qualifying examination is not available at the time of formal interviews, are also not eligible for admission.

  • Three additional candidates may be admitted over and above the sanctioned intake both for B.A., LL.B. (Hons.), out of which one seat shall be offered to Resident Students of Telangana General Category and two seats shall be offered to All India General Category candidates.
  • If a Resident Student of Telangana qualifies for admission in the regular All India merit, he / she shall be considered against the All India Seat only and not against Telangana Quota Seat. If no candidate is available against the Seats reserved for Resident Students of Telangana, such Seats shall be added to the relevant Categories under All India Quota.

 

ADMISSION FOR FOREIGN NATIONALS

  • Foreign Nationals, need not take CLAT-2019 and should apply directly to NALSAR.
  • 15 (fifteen) Seats are allocated to Foreign Nationals for the B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) course out of which 7 (seven) seats are for candidates from SAARC Countries and 8 (eight) seats for candidates from non-SAARC Countries.

 

DURATION & ACADEMIC TERMS

The undergraduate students are required to accumulate credits by pursuing the mandatory courses prescribed by the Bar Council of India (BCI), elective courses and seminar courses. The wide range of elective and seminar courses gives students a lot of flexibility. The foundational courses in History, Political Sciences, Economics, Sociology, and English are taught during first two years and form the foundations for interdisciplinary learning.

In addition to the electives and seminars offered by the full-time faculty members, the University invites eminent judges, lawyers, scholars and alumni to teach shorter courses (carrying 1 or 2 credits) so that students are exposed to current legal developments and emerging scholarship. Each credit is equivalent to 16 class hours.

In order to obtain the Degree, the students of B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) are required to accumulate 200 credits by pursuing the mandatory courses prescribed by the Bar Council of India and elective courses devised by the university. There are ten semesters spread over a period of five years.

FACILITIES AT NALSAR

The campus is spread over 50 acres and students are provided with double occupancy rooms in the Halls of Residence with a common Dining Hall facility.  The Halls of Residence have common room facilities including a functional Gym, provision for Indoor Games, Badminton courts and Television. The campus is Wi-Fi enabled with State of Art internet architecture with minimum dedicated broadband speed of 20 Mbps which supports 4G video calling. The Library has a rich collection of books, journals (printed and electronic) and e-databases. NALSAR also has a state-of-art Moot Court Hall, video conferencing facilities, a football stadium, two tennis courts, and separate basketball and volleyball courts for boys and girls. All buildings, including the Halls of Residence, are powered with diesel generators for twenty-four hour power back-up. The University has a Health Centre with Medical Officer, Gynecologist, Dentist and two Resident Nurses along with one Lab Technician. In addition, the University has a Counselling Centre.

  • The fees / charges are provisional and subject to revision from time to time as per the decision of university bodies.

According to National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF), the National Law University is on the third position with a score of 74.61. The NIRF is a ranking adopted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, to rank institutions of higher education in India.
