  • In 2019, India got its new semi-high-speed train which was known as Train 18 earlier and was later named as Vande Bharat Express. Cut to 2023, a total of 18 Vande Bharat Express trains are operating in the country.
  • Vande Bharat Express,, is an indigenously manufactured, semi-high-speed and self-propelled train set in India. It was designed and built by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. The train is a part of the Make in India initiative, aimed at promoting indigenous manufacturing capabilities.
  • Vande Bharat Express is equipped with several advanced features and passenger amenities. It offers a more comfortable and convenient travel experience compared to traditional trains. Some of its notable features include:
    • Semi-High Speed: Vande Bharat Express can achieve a maximum speed of 180 km/h (112 mph), making it one of the fastest trains in India. The train's faster acceleration and deceleration capabilities contribute to reduced journey times.
    • World-Class Amenities: The train is equipped with modern amenities to enhance passenger comfort. It includes comfortable seating with adjustable headrests, automatic doors with sliding footsteps, GPS-based passenger information system, bio-toilets, modular luggage racks, LED lighting, and onboard Wi-Fi entertainment system.
    • Aerodynamic Design: Vande Bharat Express has a sleek and aerodynamic exterior design, which reduces air drag and improves energy efficiency. The train's design incorporates features to minimize noise and vibration, ensuring a smoother and quieter ride.
    • Safety and Security: The train prioritizes passenger safety with features like fire and smoke detection system, CCTV cameras, and emergency talk-back units. It also has automatic sliding doors and a regenerative braking system for improved safety and energy conservation.
    • Eco-Friendly: Vande Bharat Express incorporates energy-efficient technologies, such as LED lighting and regenerative braking, to reduce energy consumption and environmental impact. The use of bio-toilets helps in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Recently Asia's first woman railway loco pilot Surekha Yadav operates Vande Bharat Express.
    • She piloted the train between Solapur station and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai; the railway minister hailed her and said Vande Bharat — powered by Nari Shakti.
    • In 1988, she became India’s first female train driver and for her achievements, she has been honoured with many awards at State and National level.
