A BRIEF BACKGROUND

The National Law University, Delhi was established in the National Capital Territory of Delhi with the initiative of the High Court of Delhi under the leadership of Ranbir Singh, the founder-director and vice-chancellor of the NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad), who became the university's vice-chancellor. It was inaugurated by then President of India, Pratibha Patil. The law school started its functioning in 2008. The Chief Justice of High Court of Delhi is the chancellor of university.  

 

LOCATION

The campus of NLU, Delhi is situated in Dwarka, New Delhi and is well connected with Delhi Metro’s Blue Line. The Dwarka Sector-14 metro station is located near the NLU campus and is just walking distance away. It is situated approx. 15 km away from the Indira Gandhi International Airport and it is situated at a distance of approx. 26 km from New Delhi Railway Station.

 

MODE OF ADMISSION

The NLU Delhi conducts its own entrance examination by the name AILET (All India Law Entrance Test) for the admission of students into the five year law program B.A.LLB (Hons).  The AILET has 150 Multiple Choice Questions for 150 marks that must be attempted within 1 hour 30 minutes. It consists of four sections on English, General Knowledge, Basic Mathematics, Logical Reasoning and Legal Aptitude.

The criteria for negative marking is based on the formula 0.25*4=1 that means per wrong answer 0.25 Marks will be deducted. Therefore, four wrong answers will lead to deduction of 1 Mark.

 

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE ADMISSION TO BA.LLB (Hons)

  • Students should have passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) system or an equivalent examination with at least 50% of the total marks.
  • The Eligibility condition for admission of students under the Foreign Nationals Category shall be 65% marks in the Higher Secondary School Examination of (10+2) system or an equivalent examination. They are exempted from taking the admission test.
  • The other regulations regarding the eligibility for admission will be the same as applicable to the other candidates. The candidates belonging to Overseas Citizens of India (OCI)/Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) category shall have the option to either apply under the Foreign National Category or under the category of Indian students. In case the OCI/PIO candidate apply under the category of Indian National, they have to appear in the All Indian Law Entrance Test along with other students.

FACILITIES AT NLU-DELHI

  • The University has a sprawling campus at Dwarka with state of art infrastructure facilities comprising of an academic block (five floors), separate halls of residence for boys and girls hostel (six floors), an independent administration block (five floors), a fully air-conditioned auditorium for holding conferences and seminars.
  • The University is fully residential and maintains separate residence for boys and girls. The Halls of Residence are provided with common room facilities, indoor games, like TT, Pool Table, Television and a State of Art Gymnasium.
  • National Law University Delhi Library also known as Justice T. P. S. Chawla Library and it has a separate building with two floors with the beautiful campus of the University. The mission of Justice Library emphasizes mainly to cater the needs of students, scholars and teachers of the National Law University, Delhi. It is also open for reference to Library Interns, research scholars and faculty members of other educational and research institutions.
  • The classrooms are well equipped with digital podiums, LCD projector & display screen and internet (Wi-Fi) access.
  • The University has state-of-the-art E-Moot Court Hall equipped with hi-tech audio visual equipment having a seating capacity of 170 people.

 

FEE STRUCTURE OF NLU- DELHI

The total fees for the BALLB course will be Rs 1,86,000 being deposited on an annual basis. The Mess advance of INR 21000.00 per semester will be paid by the students to be adjusted as per actual charges/expenses of the Hostel Mess.

RANKINGS IN INDIA

According to National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF), the National Law University is on the second position with a score of 76.23. The NIRF is a ranking adopted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, to rank institutions of higher education in India. The Rankings are based on “Teaching, Learning and Resources,” “Research and Professional Practices,” “Graduation Outcomes,” “Outreach and Inclusivity,” and “Perception”.

 

PLACEMENTS & SALARY PACKAGES

The law firms and corporate that visited NLU Delhi for placements include Trilegal, Khaitan and Company, S&R Associates, AZB & Partners, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and L&L Partners, P&A Law Offices and Talwar Thakore & Associates, Herbert Smith Freehills and Linklaters, Steel Authority of India, CL Educate Limited,  Edelweiss Asset Reconstruction Company Limited, Essar Oil & Gas Exploration & Production Limited, ICICI Bank Limited and Oravel Stays Private Limited (OYO).  The average salary package offered was around 10-12 LPA.
