BRIEF BACKGROUND

Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) is the statutory university established by the Govt. of Gujarat under the Gujarat National Law University Act, 2003 . The University is recognized by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) (2f & 12B) . The University is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) , the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) , International Association of Law Schools (IALS) , Asian Law Institute (ASLI) and Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute. It offers undergraduate programs in B.A.LLB, B.Sc LLB, B.Com LLB, BBA LLB and BSW LLB.

LOCATION

Once reaching the Railway Station in Ahmedabad, a person can take an auto or a taxi which are available outside the station. Buses are available nearby at Geeta Mandir Bus Stand. A person can also hire taxis from outside the Airport. The approx fares are given below

MODE OF ADMISSION

The admission to the National Law School Bangalore happens through a Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). Each year, the CLAT is conducted in the month of May and consists of objective type questions of a standard expected of 10+2 students and will be of 2 hours’ duration. The test is divided into five sections mainly- Verbal Ability, General Awareness, Quantitative Ability, Logical Reasoning and Legal Aptitude. The test will carry a maximum of 200 marks. NLSIU offers a five years integrated B.A.LLB.

The criteria for negative marking is based on the formula 0.25*4=1 that means per wrong answer 0.25 Marks will be deducted. Therefore, four wrong answers will lead to deduction of 1 Mark.
If more than one candidate gets the same rank in the merit list, the order of priority for the selection of the candidate against the available vacancies will be strictly based on the percentage of marks obtained in the qualifying examination.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO BA.LLB (Hons)

A candidate for admission to the B.A.,/Bsc LL.B. (Hons.) Degree Course shall have:
  1. Passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) system or an examination equivalent thereto securing in the first attempt, not less than 45% (40% in case of SC / ST candidates and persons with disability) in the aggregate, and
  2. Not completed 20 years of age as on 1st July of the year of admission. In the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST and persons with disability, the maximum age limit shall be 22 years.
  3. Those who do not clear the qualifying examination with the requisite marks are not eligible for admission. Candidates whose Statement of marks of the qualifying examination is not available at the time of formal interviews, are also not eligible for admission.

Based on the previous year trends, the ideal score for a candidate to get through to NLU-Jodhpur in CLAT 2020 should be between 130-140.

DURATION & ACADEMIC TERMS

  • The duration of the course shall be for a period of Five Academic Years.
  • Each academic year is divided into two semesters and ten semesters in all.


INFRASTRUCTURE

  • The University has a lush green sustainable campus.
  • The University has state-of-the-art ICT infrastructure in the Campus. The Computer Local Area Network has more than 230 Computer Systems and 13 Servers, and connects all the departments and buildings in the Campus. The Computer Networks of various buildings are interconnected through fiber optic cables. Computer Systems are installed in the Library, ClassRooms, ICT Section, GNLU Centres, Committees Offices and Administrative Offices. The University has a separate computer centre for students to access at the academic block for study and research work. High-end manageable network switches are installed for handling internal data traffic.
  • There is a Moot Court Room that is entrusted with the responsibility of facilitating and administering such exercises through its rigorous qualifying mechanism involving two rounds of mooting.
  • The Student Activities Committee, popularly known as SAC is an organization of students who work to promote extracurricular activities in the University. The various student activities organized by the SAC offer students, the much needed ‘break’ from the busy, officious and monotonous schedule of Law School. The SAC caters to diverse student interests varying from cultural pursuits like Music and Dance to literary activities Elocutions, Quizzing and Parliamentary Debating. The Literary-Entertainment Club of SAC is also affiliated with the online students magazine, Jury’s Out. Specific student involvements in Films, Books, etc are also nurtured by the SAC. The SAC consists of ten clubs, with the Gaming Club introduced for the first time, which address the varied student interests.
  • Gujarat National Law University has a World-class law library. The library is spread over four-floors with seating capacity for 300 readers at a time. It has a vast collection of more than 35,000 volumes of books, law reports and subscribes 150 print journals, newspapers, reference books and e-books. The GNLU library has huge resources in the field of law and other allied subjects such as Management, Sociology, Science & Technology, History, Economics and English Literature.

RANKINGS IN INDIA

According to National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF), NLU Jodhpur has a score of 58.64 and is at the ninth rank. The NIRF is a ranking adopted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, to rank institutions of higher education in India. The Rankings are based on “Teaching, Learning and Resources,” “Research and Professional Practices,” “Graduation Outcomes,” “Outreach and Inclusivity,” and “Perception”.
